The planning permission for Stane Retail Park was issued on 17 July 2019 (11 months after the planning committee resolved to grant the consent) when the S106 Agreement was signed off three days earlier. During that time M&S Food Hall had changed their requirement from 11,800 sq ft to 20,000 sq ft to match their store at Martlesham Heath, Ipswich.

The Churchmanor Estates Company Plc submitted a new planning application to increase the size of the Food Hall on 31 December 2019. Their commitment to invest in the local road system remains as before.

The Treasury Committee have completed the first stage of an inquiry into Business Rates to scrutinise how Government policy has impacted business.

Phase 2 will be held in 2020 and 2021.

The committee report listed my submission about why shops are left empty due to “vacant rates”, but the Conclusion and Recommendations were on a far grander scale. The detail within the submissions from rating experts is a true education on the subject, and I would urge landlords and tenants to make their views known during the second stage.
